Art 343: Modern European Art

Fall 2000, Accident Update

As you probably know, I had a car accident last week. We had got to the end of unit 12 on the syllabus. Here are some interim instructions pending my return and reorganization. THESE WILL BE UPDATED, so check back before each class period to be sure you are up to date.

Until my return, you have two projects to develop. Firstly, you need to be working on your research term-paper. Those of you who still have not passed me the first stage and still have not contacted me should do so as soon as possible. IF YOU TRY TO THROW THE THING TOGETHER AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER, YOU WILL FAIL OR MERELY SCRAPE A PASS. E-mail me, and believe in my legendary forgiveness! Michelli@uwp.edu.

Secondly, you know a bit now about the methodology of questioning and comparing artistic influences, and about setting the artists' works against dominant social events. Continue to do so - check out a video on a modern twentieth-century EUROPEAN artist (or group of artists) for each class I have to miss, and keep a brief journal about it. Give me a paragraph on it. Does it deal with artistic and social influences? How would you seek to fill the gap? How do you respond to this artist(s)? You can do this by yourselves, or in groups as you like. Videos aplenty in the library and the choice is yours. All this will keep you consistently developing familiarity with European artists of our period. Try to bear in mind the methods used in class and keep asking yourself questions! I will collect the journals from time to time, or on my return.

me whenever you like with queries, thoughts, ideas for your papers or whatever. Some students find this works particularly well for them.

COME TO CLASS ON TUESDAY.

Return to syllabus for course instructions for Tuesday.
